Get Into Summer Shape
Obviously, we all want to get in shape. Exercise is SO important for our health, not only physically, but also mentally. I know that I see a big difference in my mental health and energy levels when I have been working out. I also feel much more confident when I am in shape. Really, I don’t need to convince you of the million reasons that working out is good for you because everybody pretty much knows that already. Somehow though, all these facts are diminished when one looks at all the things that stand in the way.
I was a cheerleader in High School, so I worked out very consistently. About a year after I graduated, I realized that I was going to have to start making a conscious effort to keep myself on the workout train. At first, I tried a gym membership. I hated it. Reason being? I’m lazy. I didn’t like having to get dressed in something presentable, drive to the gym, check in, get a locker then stare at all the machines not knowing what to do (a personal trainer was too expensive for me). Then when I would finally pick something, I felt uncomfortable because I didn’t like 50 strangers staring at me struggling through a workout. I ended up just using the treadmill, and realized I was spending $50 a month to run, which in theory I could do for free.
So I did just that. I started running. Quickly, I realized that my body does not work the same way it did when I was 17. I’m talkin’ about shin splints people. They hurt. When they didn’t go away after a month of icing and trying to push through, I gave up and tried out a yoga studio.
I loved it. It was calming, motivating, and I was having fun. After about 6 months though, I realized I hadn’t seen any visible change in my body. I know that it takes time and patience to see results, but with my body type I usually see results pretty immediately. As much as I enjoyed it, I couldn’t justify or afford to spend almost $100 a month to not be seeing any results.
Fast forward to now, I have finally got a system down using youtube videos that keeps me motivated, gives me results fast, and, IT’S FREE.
Here is what I do:
I like to do about a 30 minute cardio workout every other day. My favorite channels for this are Fitness Blender and POPSUGAR Fitness.

Then on the opposite days of my cardio workouts, I do Yoga. Sometimes I do relaxing yoga, and other times I do more of a yoga/pilates inspired workout. I also make my yoga time shorter or longer depending on how I’m feeling and what my body needs. My favorite channel for this is called Boho Beautiful. The videos are all shot in beautiful locations, and there is a wide variety of styles and difficulty levels to keep you from getting bored.

And that is it! This combination of workouts alongside a balanced low carb diet has gotten me back into the best shape of my life. And it’s free! All it takes is a little self discipline and remembering to change things up so you don’t get bored. If I’m doing a video that I know really well, I will even turn on one of my favorite shows to keep me entertained through my workout.
Do you have any advice on #affordable ways to get in shape? I would love to hear them! If not, hopefully this post has given you some ideas that you can use to feel your best. As always, thanks for reading!
